Quilted Fiberglass MLV is a flexible, mass loaded vinyl laminated to a quilted fiberglass decoupler on one side. The combination forms a thin, lightweight acoustical product that displays excellent mechanical properties, while providing superior sound transmission loss.
Sound waves originating from the source will initially be absorbed by the fiberglass and then blocked by the mass loaded vinyl. Any reflected sound wave will be further dissipated into the fiberglass absorber.
This material won't shrink, rot, or cause metal corrosion. It also resists adverse environmental conditions and UV light.
Common applications for quilted fiberglass mass loaded vinyl:
- HVAC duct
- Drain pipe
- Any lightweight metal, plastic, or similar surface
This material is not intended for low frequency sound transfer or footfall impact noise transfer. Our QuietImpact rubber underlayment is recommended instead.

Wherever the material is installed, it must be installed solid, with no gaps. Any gaps in the barrier should be caulked with any brand caulk and taped over with a standard duct tape or foil tape.
For other installations where the material cannot wrap around a surface, fasteners can be used. We would recommend using the fasteners (drywall nail or screw) sparingly to maximize decoupling and with a thin 1" fender washer to avoid tearing.
AROUND PIPES, DUCT, AND SIMILAR APPLICATIONS
MLV should be wrapped tight to the surface, overlap the seams slightly or butt the seams tight, and tape the seam with a foil tape found at any hardware store.
