QuietImpact Rubber Floor Underlayment is used to isolate footfall impact noise transfer. This material will decrease airborne sound transfer if installed between two rigid surfaces (sub-floor and hardwood/vinyl/tile). Carpet over rubber underlayment will not improve issues with airborne sound transfer.
The 5mm thickness is the most common version purchased as it provides a good balance between performance, ease of installation, and cost per square foot. The 8mm thickness is most often used to achieve better footfall isolation and to absorb more significant impact. The 2mm thickness is most often used over concrete sub-floors and/or in assemblies with resilient clips decoupling the ceiling drywall below.
Rubber underlayment should only be installed in floors to isolate footfall impact noise transfer. This material will decrease airborne sound transfer if installed between two rigid surfaces. Carpet over rubber underlayment will not imp

This material must be installed solid, with no gaps. Any gaps from errant cuts should be caulked with any brand caulk and taped over with a standard duct tape. Virtually any finish floor can be installed over rubber underlayment: wood, laminate, tile, vinyl plank, carpet, etc.
FLOORS (IF YOU FLOAT THE FINISH FLOOR)
If your finish floor (tile, laminate, wood, vinyl, carpet, etc.) is free floating or nailed down, then the rubber underlayment will also free float - no adhesion necessary. Roll the material flat, butt the seams together, and tape with a standard duct tape or foil tape found at any hardware store. Caulk the perimeter to create a solid installation from corner to corner.
FLOORS (IF YOU GLUE OR THINSET THE FINISH FLOOR)
If your finish floor (tile, laminate, wood, vinyl, etc.) must be fixed to the floor with an adhesive or thinset, then the rubber underlayment will also be fixed with an adhesive or thinset. Apply a urethane based (never petroleum based) or common thinset to the sub-floor and roll this material flat, butt the seams together, and tape with a standard duct tape found at any hardware store. Caulk the perimeter to create a solid installation from corner to corner.
